The Queens Chamber of Commerce has published Queensborough magazine since 1915. This online version features short news items of interest to our members and the Queens business community. We welcome items submitted for consideration.

The Queens Chamber of Commerce is joined by partner chambers the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Queens and the JFK International Airport Chamber of Commerce for a networking event on Wednesday, March 7th at the NY Hall of Science. It will begin promptly at 5:30pm and run to 7:30pm. Come in out of the cold and enjoy the city’s greatest scientific exhibit. “GROWING SMALL BUSINESS: THE NEW FEDERAL & STATE ENVIRONMENT” BREAKFAST FORUM – FEBRUARY 22ND – DIAMOND CLUB AT SHEA STADIUM
Queens Economic Development Corporation invites you attend the 4th annual 2007 “Forecast for Queens” breakfast event at 8:30 in the morning of Thursday, February 22nd entitled “GROWING SMALL BUSINESS: THE NEW FEDERAL & STATE ENVIRONMENT”. The forum will present a discussion of the small business potential of Queens County featuring a keynote by Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez, Chair of the US House Small Business Committee and a special appearance by Assemblyman Mark Weprin, Chair of the NYS Small Business Committee. Additionally, Professor Leonard Baynes of St. John’s University Law School will present and excerpt from his law review article about Queens small businesses and Brian McMahon. President of the New York State Economic Development Council will present timely subject from their recently released study on the state business environment. The breakfast will be held at the Diamond Club at Shea Stadium beginning at 8:30. Breakfast will be provided, parking is available and the Diamond Club is located across the street from the Shea Stadium stop on the Number 7 train.

RIDGEWOOD SAVINGS BANK ELECTS TWO NEW TRUSTEES Richard Frame Retires After 26 Years as Board Member
The Board of Trustees of Ridgewood Savings Bank today announced it has elected Robert W. Donohue and Dr. Margaret M. Fitzpatrick as new trustees of the bank, as of Jan. 1, 2007.

Ridgewood Savings Bank Trustee Richard Frame is retiring after 26 years of service to the bank. Mr. Frame was elected to Ridgewood’s Board of Trustees in 1980.

Mr. Donohue brings more than 40 years experience in the electric utility industry. Prior to his retirement in 2003, he held management and senior executive positions at Consolidated Edison of New York where he was responsible for all electric distribution operations, maintenance, engineering, construction, planning, and customer services for the company’s territory. He now serves as executive vice president for PDR&C Corp., providing consulting services, assessments, and operational expertise to a variety of utilities throughout the country.

Dr. Fitzpatrick is currently president and CEO of St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, New York. Her career in academic leadership, fiscal oversight, strategic planning, and advancement of institutional relations spans 32 years. Previously, Dr. Fitzpatrick was senior vice president of St. John’s University and campus minister and administrator of Queensborough Community College. She also has authored nine publications relating to issues associated with administration, finances, and values in higher education.

GABRIEL TAUSSIG APPOINTED TO QUEENS LIBRARY’S BOARD OF TRUSTEES
Gabriel Taussig has been appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Queens Library by Mayor Michael Bloomberg. The Board of Trustees is the Queens Library’s governing body, consisting of 19 members. In addition, the Mayor, Speaker of the City Council, Comptroller, Public Advocate and Queens Borough President are ex-officio members. Trustees serve without remuneration for a term of five years.

Mr. Taussig has spent his entire legal career with the New York City Law Department and has served as Chief of the Administrative Law Division for over 20 years. He lectures before various bar groups about various legal issues involving the City of New York. A graduate of Queens College and Brooklyn Law School, Mr. Taussig was educated in the New York City public school system and is an alumnus of Jamaica High School. Mr. Taussig and his wife have two grown children and reside in Hollis Hills.

REP. MALONEY BECOMES CHAIR OF FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS SUBCOMMITTEE
Powerful subcommittee oversees America's banks
Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-Manhattan, Queens), a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee, assumed the chairwomanship of the powerful Financial Institutions Subcommittee. The subcommittee oversees the American banking industry, which includes more than 22,000 banks, thrifts, and credit unions.

Maloney has served on the Financial Services Committee since she was first sworn in to Congress in 1992. She was the senior Democrat on the Domestic and International Monetary Policy, Trade and Technology Subcommittee during the last session of Congress.
