On the evening of Wednesday, December 3, hundreds of business, government, and community leaders from throughout Queens gathered at Terrace on the Park in Flushing Meadows, Corona Park for the Queens Chamber of Commerce’s annual Business Persons of the Year Awards Dinner. The evening recognized Cheryl McKissack Daniel, President & CEO of McKissack & McKissack; Larry Zogby, CEO of RDS Same Day Delivery; Bob and Maureen Shoule, of J. W. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Larry launched One Random Act of Kindness, delivering over 350,000 meals to frontline workers and families in need—a mission that continues today. The Queens Chamber of Commerce, the borough’s oldest and largest business association, and Caribbean Business Connections (CBC), announced today a joint effort in support of Help Jamaica: Hurricane Melissa Relief Efforts, organized by the American Friends of Jamaica (AFJ). “Our hearts go out to the people of Jamaica as they face the enormous challenges left in the wake of Hurricane Melissa,” said Tom Grech, President & CEO of the Queens Chamber of Commerce.. “Queens is home to one of the largest Caribbean communities in the country, and we feel a deep responsibility to stand with our friends and partners. This new program bridges the gap between education and industry, giving participants the tools they need to succeed in a sustainable workforce. Through a series of workshops, on-site visits, and hands-on learning opportunities, students will gain practical knowledge tailored to the real-world demands of the green jobs sector. “Queens has always been a leader in innovation and opportunity. The celebration will take place at Flushing Town Hall and will bring together architects, civic leaders, and community members to recognize visionary leadership in architecture across the borough. Grech will receive the “Advancing Architecture Through Community Engagement” Award, one of the three major honors presented at the Gala. This award recognizes individuals and organizations whose work has contributed to the built environment and economic growth in the borough. Under Grech’s leadership, the Queens Chamber of Commerce has been a driving force behind economic growth in the borough. On Wednesday, July 23, the Queens Chamber of Commerce—the borough’s oldest and largest business association—announced KORA as the winner of its inaugural Queens’ Best Bakery Competition. The competition, which launched on June 13, invited locals to nominate and vote for their favorite spots for cookies, cakes, and all the sweet treats in between, with the beloved Filipino-inspired bakery emerging as the champion. “Congratulations to KORA in Sunnyside for rising to the top and being named Queens’ Best Bakery,” said Tom Grech, President and CEO of the Queens Chamber of Commerce. “This competition was a celebration of the incredible talent and diversity in our borough’s baking scene, and Kora’s creativity and dedication clearly resonated with voters.
