Flushing Greenmarket opens at Maple Playground offering community access to farm fresh produce

The Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce and GrowNYC on Wednesday, July 5, launched the eighth season of the Flushing Greenmarket at Maple Playground that will provide neighborhood residents access to farm fresh food from a regional farm every Wednesday from July through the week of Thanksgiving.

The Flushing Greenmarket, located in front of Maple Playground at 136-50 Maple Ave., is operated by GrowNYC and will be open every Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. from July to November. The last day will be Nov. 29.

“We are delighted to host the [eighth] season of our Flushing Greenmarket,” said Alice Lee, chairwoman of the Chamber’s Advisory Board. “In addition to connecting our community with local farmers, we will be featuring the work of local artists to showcase their innovative work and to encourage more people to visit our business community.”

The Flushing Greenmarket will bring fresh offerings from local farms to the community and features farmers selling baked goods, eggs, cider, orchard fruit and a bounty of vegetables.

The weekly producers and farmers at this location include Breezy Hill Orchard and Knoll Krest Farm from Dutchess County and R&G Produce from Orange County.

GrowNYC‘s Greenmarket works to preserve local farmland, while ensuring that New Yorkers have access to fresh, healthy food grown in our region. GrowNYC ensures product integrity and everything sold at its greenmarkets is 100% farmer grown, produced, caught or foraged in the local region. Farmers interested in selling their products at the Flushing Greenmarket can get more information and apply at grownyc.org.

The Greater Flushing Chamber of Commerce is partnering with GrowNYC to promote the Greenmarket and organize community programming, including art exhibits, puppet shows, musical performances and educational events for local residents and entrepreneurs. The market will host regular cooking demonstrations, free recipes and seasonal celebrations.
